The Dartmouth Cultural Center: Past, Present and Future - Open House
Since its opening in 1889, this Richardsonian Romanesque building designed by Robert H. Stack, has remained essentially unaltered since its construction. It has served as a public library and public intellectual center for 137 years.
Today 404 Elm Street is leased by the Town of Dartmouth to the Dartmouth Cultural Center. The Center’s mission is to continue the public legacy of the Olde Southworth Library through restoration, education and the arts. Visitors are invited to tour the building, see our current Gallery show which changes monthly, learn about classes, workshops and lectures offered and examine the plans for renovations to begin in 2026 to make this historic gem welcoming, accessible and comfortable for all of our guests.
